Chapter 1955: Chapter 1956

“Shut up!” Eric snarled before letting out a pained groan, rubbing his temples with trembling fingers. “I told you to shut up! God!”

In an instant, a piercing ache shot through his skull, and his vision blurred into darkness.

“Phillips!” Dread surged alongside the pain, and Eric flailed, reaching for anything to steady himself.

“Mr. Scott!”

“Eric!”

But Phillips was a moment too slow. Megan, standing close by, swiftly caught Eric’s hand just in time. The man who moments ago had been so sharp and commanding now appeared ashen and remorseful.

“Are you okay? Is your headache that bad?” Megan’s eyes welled with tears, her voice breaking as they spilled down her cheeks. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to upset you! It’s all my fault!”

“Phillips!” Eric, ignoring Megan, shoved her aside without a second thought. “Where are you?”

“Right here!” Phillips rushed to Eric’s side, steadying him while pulling out a small bottle of pills. “Mr. Scott, the medical facilities here are subpar. We need to get you back to Srixby.”

Eric swallowed the medication and, after a brief pause, gave a faint nod. His voice was rough and barely audible. “Fine… let’s head back.”

“I’ll get the car door!”

Megan darted ahead, oblivious to Eric’s dismissal, still hovering nearby, bustling with nervous energy.

As the car pulled away, Eric slumped back in his seat, eyes shut. Megan sat beside him, her gaze fixed on him, unblinking and anxious.

“If you feel worse, you must tell me.”

“Hmph.” Eric let out a bitter scoff, shaking his head.

“You’re still mad at me,” Megan whispered, her voice trembling. “But I didn’t mean any harm.” She was only jealous.

“Is Hadley really that special? You’re stuck living in the past! Can’t you just look at me for once?”

“Tch!” Eric’s patience snapped. He opened his eyes, glaring at her. “Can you just keep your mouth shut for once?”

Megan would never understand. After learning about Hadley’s four years in Blathe, he was doomed to be chained to those memories, never able to break free.

When they arrived in Srixby, dawn had already broken. They headed straight to the hospital.

Eric was in the examination room while Megan paced outside, restless.

“Doctor!” Megan grabbed the doctor’s arm as he emerged, her voice urgent. “How’s he doing?”

“Well…” The doctor’s expression was grim as he shook his head. “We’re still waiting on the test results, so it’s hard to say for sure.” He hesitated, then sighed deeply. “Honestly, more tests won’t change much for Mr. Scott at this point. He needs surgery as soon as possible. You should convince him.”

“Okay.”
