Chapter 1896: Chapter 1897

She rubbed her forehead, visibly distressed, and waved her hand repeatedly in denial. “That’s not possible! Childish! You’re being far too naive! Even if you live apart, his parents will still be his parents! And someone like Noreen? She’ll find a way to make your life miserable from a thousand miles away!”

“Mom…” Colleen sighed, frustration lacing her voice. She couldn’t reason with her mother. “I have faith in Brady. Besides, what’s the point of arguing over something that hasn’t even happened?”

“Because things are not that simple!” Louise let out a weary sigh. “I had your father look into Brady. He really is a good kid.”

He was young and had only recently returned from his studies overseas. On top of that, he was managing his family’s supermarket business and had already achieved independence. Even more impressive, he kept his personal life clean and above board.

“But, Colleen…” Louise’s voice softened into a mournful tone. “It still can’t work. Please trust me on this. Everything I’m doing is for your sake. His family background is simply too troublesome.”

“I… I can’t let him go.” Colleen bit her lower lip, her eyes misting over as she shook her head slowly. “Mom, I don’t want to. I won’t walk away from him.”

“Mom, watch your step… take it slowly.”

Once inside the room, Colleen gently eased Louise onto the bed.

“Mom, where do you keep your pills?”

Louise had high blood pressure and needed to take her medication regularly.

But Louise said nothing, her eyes shut tight, refusing to acknowledge her daughter.

“Mom!” Colleen’s voice was filled with worry. “Please, tell me where they are!” She began searching the drawers in a panic.

“What are you trying to find?” The noise grew too loud, and Louise snapped her eyes open, irritation flaring. “I’m not taking any medicine! What’s the point? Let your defiance be the death of me!”

She exhaled sharply and added, “That way, you won’t have to sneak around anymore!”

“Mom…” Colleen stomped her foot, frustration bubbling over. “I’m not going anywhere! Just tell me where they are. You have to take your medication!”

“Do you promise? You’re not lying just to calm me down?”

“I promise!”

There was no way Colleen would gamble with her mother’s health.
