Elvin laughed lightly. “Adonis still says bringing you in early was one of his smartest moves. Let’s go.”
“That’s very kind of him…” Hadley replied.
She followed him out, and just like that, by the time Eric arrived, she was already gone.
The bodyguard stood by the entrance, head down and tense. “Miss Pearson left for a gathering with Mr. Webster, sir.”
After spending the entire afternoon running back and forth across Srixby and Tidebourne with Eric, the exhaustion was obvious. No wonder Eric’s face had gone completely cold. How was it this hard just to see Hadley?
“Let’s go.” His voice was tight, and he turned sharply toward the car.
“Yes, sir.” The bodyguard followed closely behind.
As Eric yanked the car door open, the driver turned his head slightly. “Mr. Scott… Are we heading back to Olisvale Bay?”
Eric glared at him. “You idiot,” he snapped, getting into the car without another word.
The bodyguard gave the driver a small, pitying look. “We’re not going back—we’re picking up Miss Pearson.”
“Oh! Right, right!” The driver scrambled to shift gears.
Eric wasn’t letting today end like this. No more missed moments. He had to see her with his own eyes.
To make sure there were no more missteps, Eric called Hadley from the car. But it wasn’t her voice that answered—it was Chelsey, her assistant. Whenever Hadley was tied up with something, she typically passed her phone to Chelsey.
“Hello, Mr. Scott?”
“Yeah.” Eric frowned, catching the unfamiliar voice. “Tell Hadley I’m on my way. Ask her to wait for me.”

“Will do!” Chelsey hung up and hurried off. “Hadley!”
“What is it?” Hadley spotted Chelsey hurrying toward her and immediately sensed something was off.
“It’s Mr. Scott.” Chelsey caught her breath. “He called just now. He went to the studio to find you but missed you. He’s on his way here now—he wants you to wait for him!”
Hadley blinked, caught off guard. He was back in Srixby already?
When she thought about it, the timing added up. He’d really gone to the studio… and now he was coming all the way here?
“Well, would you look at that!” Chelsey couldn’t keep her thoughts to herself. “He’s been chasing you around all afternoon. Now he’s coming all the way here. He’s not giving up, Miss Pearson.”
Hadley didn’t say a word. But her heart was pounding, breath catching in her chest. She pressed a hand to her chest, trying to steady herself. “Give me the phone,” she said at last.
Chelsey handed it over. Hadley stared at the screen for a few seconds before hitting redial.
“It’s me.”
