The officers were already filing into the hospital.
Her pace faltered after only a few steps.
Leading the group of police officers was a familiar figure—Ellis. Recognition passed between them as he inclined his head and walked directly toward her.
“Mr. Gomez.” The sight of him left Hadley a bit surprised. She had never thought he would appear in person.
“Hi. Because of Mr. Scott’s position, I was instructed to oversee the case myself,” he said in a brisk tone.
“I understand…” Her head dipped several times as she whispered, “Thank you. Truly, thank you.”
“There’s no need for gratitude. I’m only carrying out my duty.” Ellis wasted no time, his tone crisp.
“I received the details on my way here. I’ll take over from here and oversee the search.”
“Of course. Please proceed.”
Once his commands were given, the officers spread through the building, each moving with clear instructions in hand.
Hadley withdrew to the side, her lips pressed together, every thought shaping into a quiet plea for answers.
Ellis wasted no time, deploying officers and ordering every inch of the hospital to be searched.
Still, the building was sprawling, each corridor stretching the task further.
Even so, the clock kept moving, and not a trace of Eric surfaced.
“Incompetent fools, all of you!” Ferris erupted first, thrusting a finger toward Ellis.
“Did they send me a man incapable of doing his job?”
A shadow crossed Ellis’s face, though restraint kept his reply measured.
“Mr. Scott,” he said with deliberate calm.

“Every corner we could reach has been searched…”
Then his eyes shifted toward Hadley.
“From what the evidence suggests, your son is likely no longer inside this hospital.”
Ferris’ skin flushed a deep red as fury overtook him.
“Are you saying my son was stolen away while you all stood by and watched?”
The cane in his hand slammed against the tile, the sharp echo filling the room.
“This is your grand effort? This is why they sent you here? To tell me there’s nothing you could do?”
“Mr. Gomez?” Hadley’s voice trembled as her gaze locked on Ellis, panic shining in her eyes.
Fear made her words unsteady, but she knew anger would solve nothing.
“What should we do now?” she asked.
“The circumstances are far from favorable,” Ellis replied, his tone grim.
“Every camera shows nothing unusual. No suspicious vehicles. Which means…”
He let the thought hang, calculating his next step.
“To cover all bases, we’ll have to track down and inspect every vehicle that entered or left the premises during and after the event. It won’t be quick.”
“Please find him!” Hadley’s plea escaped before she could hold it back.
Ellis’ brows furrowed, and he hesitated, his eyes searching her face.
