“You’re a grown man. Is this how you behave? Making a scene in front of everyone? Do you know how embarrassing that is if word gets out?”
Making a scene?
Eric’s jaw tightened. Hands in his pockets, he met his father’s glare.
“I want answers.”
Ferris bristled at the demand, clearly fed up.
He had known from the start—anything involving Hadley would bring trouble.
He moved to the sofa and sat heavily.
“You want answers? Fine.”
He didn’t bother to circle around it.
“Truth is, I told them to keep everything about Hadley from you.”
Eric’s eyes narrowed.
“And who gave you the right to do that?”
Ferris slammed his cane against the floor.
“She no longer has anything to do with you!”
Now, staring at his son, anger simmered beneath his expression.
“Didn’t you look at the records? Are you blind? She’s your ex-wife, Eric. Ex-wife! You’ve already divorced. Do I really need to remind you of that? You’ve been divorced for two years!”
Hearing this, Eric didn’t respond.
He had seen the documents. The dates were clear.
“She’s no longer a part of your life, so why would we keep bringing her up?” Ferris snapped.
Eric still didn’t buy it.
“Then why go to such lengths to hide it?”
“Why?” Ferris gave a dry laugh.

“That’s what I find strange. You’re done with her, so why are you this upset now?”
He gestured toward Megan.
“And what about her? Is that fair to Megan? You and Hadley have been divorced for two years. Megan is the one you’re with now.”
Eric’s expression turned stiff.
The silence between them stretched thin.
“Any more questions?” Ferris scoffed.
“We left Hadley out of it to avoid stirring up unnecessary trouble. You two were over long ago. That’s all there is to it.” His voice dropped to a cold edge.
“Do you understand what that means? It means no ties. No connection. Nothing left.”
He pressed his fingers to his temple.
“And when you were lying in that hospital bed after the surgery, did she come? Did she even check on you once? Not a single time.”
“Hmph. How much weight do your words even carry?” Eric scoffed, shooting Ferris a hard glare.
He shifted his gaze briefly toward Megan and went on, “Weren’t you the one who said she’d been my girlfriend for over ten years? That’s hilarious.” The more Eric thought about it, the more absurd it sounded.
“I’ve only been divorced for two years. And you’re saying Megan and I have been together for over ten? That would mean we were having an affair the whole time I was married to another woman!” he continued.
