Deep down, he understood just how much Megan did for him.
“Go ahead and eat,” Megan said, nudging the plate closer.
“Alright.” Eric cut a piece of pancake and put it in his mouth.
Megan stared at him, and then her tone shifted.
“Is something wrong with the taste?”
Caught off guard, Eric blinked, then quickly shook his head.
“No. It’s really good.”
“Is that so? Then why do you look like you’re forcing it down?” The smile on Megan’s face faltered, and her complexion turned a little pale. Her eyes fluttered shut for a second before she drew in a steady breath.
“I want to ask you something, and I need you to be honest with me.”
“Sure.” Eric lowered his hands to his lap.
“What is it?”
“About yesterday…” Megan fixed her gaze on him.
“Did you leave because of Ernest? Or was it because of Hadley?”
That caught Eric completely off guard. It was the last thing he expected her to bring up.
A bitter chuckle escaped Megan.
“Say something. Why are you so quiet?”
The moment Megan saw him run after Hadley, a sinking feeling had crept in. It told her—loud and clear—that her chances were fading fast. She hadn’t closed her eyes all night. She spent the hours tossing, turning, and torturing herself with every possible thought.
In the end, she knew she couldn’t let it go. And she had to do something. Ever since she took Ferris’ advice and stepped into the role of Eric’s girlfriend, backing out had never been an option. She stood by her choices—there was nothing she regretted.
Facing Eric now, she made up her mind to stop dancing around the truth.
“I know things aren’t the same between us anymore… so tell me, have you started falling for Hadley?”

That question struck Eric hard. A chill ran down his spine as sweat prickled at his brow.
“Megan…” he murmured, swallowing hard, though his thoughts were spinning out of control.
With a sharp breath, Megan narrowed her eyes and gave him a cold look.
“So I was right, wasn’t I? Eric, how could you treat me like this?”
Her voice trembled with rising frustration.
“What about us? Does being ill and losing your memories give you the right to walk away from everything we’ve built together?”
Eric stood frozen, his lips slightly parted in shock.
“What is that?” Megan’s eyes locked onto his, a wry smile curling her lips.
“Are you going to deny it? Then explain why you abandoned me like that yesterday. And those two days you vanished—were you with Hadley? You have a girlfriend, Eric!”
Megan shook her head, her expression laced with anguish as she held Eric’s gaze.
“Is this fair to me?”
