“Here, wipe your mouth.”
Hadley reached out to take it, but suddenly, Ernest’s gaze froze completely, his entire body going rigid.
He abruptly stood up from his chair and walked to the window, staring intently outside as if he’d seen something impossible. The tissue meant for Hadley fluttered to the floor, completely forgotten.
Hadley was completely surprised by his sudden, dramatic movement. What had Ernest seen out there that could cause such a reaction?
She immediately got up and followed him to the window, her curiosity overriding everything else. The restaurant sat directly next to a bustling commercial street, and from their elevated position, they could see the busy crowd moving like ants below.
“Hadley, look over there!” Ernest pointed in a specific direction, his eyes shining with a strange, almost frantic light.
Hadley didn’t speak immediately, her eyes mirroring his surprise and growing recognition.
“But that’s impossible…”
Before she could voice her complete doubt, Ernest couldn’t wait any longer. He suddenly turned and ran out of the restaurant. As he ran, he pulled out his phone and frantically dialed Quentin’s number with shaking fingers.
“Quentin! It’s me!”
“Ernest?”
Watching Ernest’s retreating figure disappear through the door, Eric asked in complete confusion, “Where the hell are you going?”
Instinctively, he looked at Hadley, who seemed completely lost and abandoned. Had Ernest really just left her here like this?
“Hadley…” Before Eric could offer any comfort, Hadley immediately chased after Ernest, bolting out of the restaurant as well.
Everything happened too quickly, leaving Eric and Megan completely unsure of what had just transpired.
“What on earth happened?” Megan asked Eric, her voice rising with confusion.

“Why did they both just run away like that?”
“I have no idea.” Eric shook his head, completely bewildered.
“I’ll go see what’s happening. If you’re finished eating, just head back first!”
With that, he had already taken off after Hadley, leaving Megan behind.
“Eric?” Megan was stunned, staring at the suddenly empty table.
In just a few minutes, she was the only one left sitting there, abandoned.
“Eric!”
As Megan ran after Eric, Phillips stepped forward, deliberately blocking her path.
“Miss Aston.”
Megan stomped her foot in frustration.
“It’s you again! What do you want this time?”
Phillips showed no expression whatsoever.
“Mr. Scott specifically asked me to stay here and take you home safely after you finished eating.”
“You!” Megan was furious.
“Aren’t you aware that he just ran after Hadley? And you’re standing here blocking me?”
“Mr. Scott is following Mr. Flynn.”
