“Tell them to get out of my way!”

“I can’t do that.” His voice was quiet but steady.

“What?” Her brows furrowed.

“You told them to block me?”

Phillips said nothing. He just nodded.

“What is this?” Megan stared at him in disbelief.

“Eric’s here. I need to talk to him!”

“I’m sorry.” Phillips shook his head again.

“That’s not happening.”

“What?” Her voice rose as she pointed toward the estate entrance.

“Didn’t you see? He’s with Hadley!”

“I saw.” Not only had he seen—it was his job to know everything. And no one knew Eric better than he did.

“Then why stop me?” Megan snapped, frustration spilling over.

“Have you forgotten what his father said?”

“I haven’t.” Phillips stood firm.

“But Mr. Scott is with Hadley now. That’s where he wants to be.”

“So what?” She looked at him like he was missing something obvious.

“I’m his girlfriend!”

“Are you?” he asked, calm as ever, meeting her eyes.

Megan froze. Her mouth opened slightly, but no words came out. Her so-called title—“Eric’s girlfriend”—was something Ferris had declared.

“Take Miss Aston home.”

“Yes, sir.”

With that, Phillips turned and walked away. He couldn’t stop Megan from liking Eric. But even with all his lost memories, no one had the power to control what Eric chose for himself.

In the car, Hadley and Brady sat in the back. Eric, with a sigh that wasn’t quite sincere, claimed the front seat.

“Got any tissues?”

“Yeah.”

He handed a pack back to her.

“Here.”

“Thanks.” She took them, pulled one out, and gently dabbed at the blood on Brady’s cheek. Leaning closer, she studied the gash on his forehead.

“It’s not too bad,” Eric said, turning to look.

“Just clean it, put some antiseptic on it, and watch for infection.”

“Alright.” Hadley gave a quiet nod and said nothing more.

The car grew quiet.

Before they reached Jewel Avenue, Brady stirred. He winced, a hand at his neck, and blinked his eyes open with a low groan.

“Brady?” Hadley leaned in to steady him.

“How do you feel?”

“Hadley.” He gave a slow nod, his gaze clearing.
