After a careful checkup, the doctor offered Eric some relief. “There’s no need to worry, Mr. Scott. Miss Pearson is only suffering from shock. She’ll regain consciousness soon.”
“Understood.” With a slight nod, Eric turned and walked out of the room.
Even though he had stayed on the line with Hadley the entire time, he had missed the chaos firsthand. There were pieces he needed to put together, and Tamara could help fill in the gaps.
“Mr. Scott?” Tamara straightened, ready to speak as soon as he addressed her.
Eric rested his hand in his pocket, his expression shadowed and serious. “You witnessed everything. I need you to explain exactly what took place.”
“Mr. Scott…” Tamara’s voice wavered, unable to find the right words. She already had a good idea of what Eric was about to ask even before he came to her.
Dropping her gaze, Tamara offered a quiet apology. “All I saw when I got there was the two of them pressed together.”
She hadn’t witnessed the exact moment the knife struck Linda. By the time she rushed in, her only thought was to separate them. But clearly, she had arrived just a moment too late.
“Mr. Scott.” Tamara bowed her head. “It was my fault!”
Eric’s frustration was clear as his brows drew together in a tight line.
“Mr. Scott,” Tamara tried to reassure him. “There’s a recording, right? Maybe the footage or audio will reveal what actually happened.”
Everything the two women said should have been picked up by the recording. With that, the truth could come out.
Eric listened, then shut his eyes and exhaled a long, weary breath.
The real trouble was the recording itself. Linda had been careful with her words, almost as if she knew the conversation was being documented. It felt orchestrated, as though she had planned every word to make it look like Hadley was the one who stabbed her. That recording, instead of clearing Hadley’s name, could easily end up being used against her.
“But…” Tamara pressed her lips together in concern, shaking her head. “I know Hadley. I truly don’t believe she would ever hurt Linda.”

“That’s not the issue.” Eric’s frown only deepened as he shook his head once more. For him, whether or not Hadley had done anything was beside the point. Protecting her was all that mattered.
He massaged his temples, clearly troubled. “There were two caregivers present at the time, besides you, right?”
Tamara gave a quick nod. “Yes, that’s right.” Piecing together her memory, she added, “There were two people. One was a regular staff member at the sanatorium who handled general duties. The other was Jane, who looked after Linda specifically.”
Suddenly, Tamara’s face lost its color. A chilling realization swept over her. She could tell Eric had reached the same conclusion. His eyes hardened, and the tension in his posture grew.
He didn’t hesitate. “Get in touch with Cristian. Have him come over immediately.”
“I’ll do it right away!”
