The truth settled in—it had only been a hallucination. The realization hit her, and Hadley stared at him in silence.

Eric gently reassured her, “You’ve gone through too much lately. All this stress is taking a toll on you.”

Elissa’s death had left Hadley shattered. Adding to the weight she already carried, Chelsey had now stepped forward and accused Linda as well. Tamara had already brought Eric up to speed on every detail.

Speaking softly, Eric tried to ease her mind. “That’s probably why your mind is playing tricks on you, making you believe Linda was following you.”

Reluctantly, Hadley recognized the truth. The facts seemed to speak for themselves. She couldn’t deny what was right in front of her.

“Then…” Hadley’s head snapped up and she grabbed Eric’s arm, her eyes searching his. “What about what Chelsey said? Do you believe her? Chelsey claims Linda was the real mastermind behind everything!”

“I’m aware of her accusation.” Eric’s brow knit together as he nodded. “But it still has to be confirmed. Phillips is already looking into it.”

“Do you suspect Linda too?” Hadley pressed, the worry growing in her voice. “She’s hated me for years—it wouldn’t be out of character for her, right? Please, just tell me what you think!”

“You’re not wrong.” Eric rested his hands on her shoulders, meeting her gaze. “It’s a real possibility, but we can’t act on it without proof.”

He paused, then added, “We need to understand how she’s tied to Chelsey. How did she pull Chelsey’s strings? We need real evidence to tie it all together.”

“I know it’s her!” Hadley insisted, her tone icy and unwavering. “Ayla’s actions were her doing too! There’s no one else in my life who despises me this much—no one who wants to see me ruined except Linda!”

“I understand.” Eric noticed her growing distress and responded with a steady nod, his voice gentle and reassuring. “But please give me a little more time. We can’t convict her without evidence. If Linda really is behind this, she won’t escape justice. Trust me on this, alright?”

Hadley paused, her uncertainty plain. “Can I trust you?”

Deep down, she questioned whether she still had faith in him since this came to Linda.

When he heard her hesitation, Eric’s shoulders slumped as he let out a quiet sigh, a touch of sadness in his eyes. “Even now, you still have doubts about me? Hadley…”

He squeezed her hand, his jaw tightening as he tried to hold back his emotion. In the stillness, he spoke with gentle conviction. “You and Joy are everything to me. I swear, I’ll never let anyone or anything hurt you again.”

Hadley’s eyes grew misty as she blinked away fresh tears. Biting her lip, she gave a small nod. “Alright. I trust you!”

Inside, she held onto the hope that Eric wouldn’t betray that trust again.

It was a quiet afternoon when Eric brought Hadley to see Hamza for her scheduled treatment. After checking her condition, Hamza noted that her symptoms had worsened. Her sleep had become shallow again, so he wrote her a new prescription.
