Before Eric could respond, Ayla’s laughter grew more frenzied, her gaze fixed on Hadley with chilling clarity. “That’s right, Hadley. I did it deliberately.”

Hadley froze, stunned by the admission.

“Why are you so shocked? I warned you, didn’t I?” Ayla sneered, her voice sharp and lucid.

Through gritted teeth, she spat, “You took Eric from me—he was mine, always mine! I couldn’t get to you, so I went for your friend instead. It’s just as satisfying.”

Hadley’s mind reeled, a pounding ache splitting her thoughts as Ayla’s words sank in.
