Chapter 1879: Chapter 1880

He added, “I know you’re doing okay financially, but this is yours by right.”

No matter what she said, he wouldn’t budge. In the end, Hadley had no choice but to accept.

The next day, she made her way to Zane’s law firm. Just outside the entrance, Hadley unexpectedly caught sight of Zane’s ex, Lyla Cooper.

Lyla was pleading with the security guard. “Please, can you just let me in? I’m a friend of Mr. Hayes…”

“Sorry.” The guard shook his head firmly. “We’ve confirmed with him. Mr. Hayes specifically instructed us not to let you in.”

“What?” Lyla’s face drained of color. She bit her lower lip hard. “He… he won’t even agree to see me now?”

Just then, the guard looked up and spotted Hadley approaching. She had visited a few times before, and he recognized her immediately.

“Miss Pearson.” He greeted her politely with a warm smile. “Please go in. Mr. Hayes was just asking if you’d arrived.”

“Thank you.” Hadley returned the smile, kept her gaze forward, and walked right past without sparing Lyla a glance.

Even without looking back, Hadley could feel Lyla’s eyes fixed on her, and the look definitely wasn’t pleasant.

Inside, she met with Zane.

Zane seemed to have his hands full. After she handed him the documents and they exchanged a few words, Hadley was ready to excuse herself and let him go back to work.

Zane sighed and raised his hands. “Apologies. I’m buried in work today.”

“Oh, no worries.” Hadley didn’t mind at all. With a calm, understanding smile, she got to her feet, nodded, and said, “I’ll let you get back to work.”

“Alright, take care.”

As she stepped out of the law firm, she glanced around and noticed that Lyla was no longer outside. She immediately let out a breath of relief.

She wasn’t concerned about Lyla trying to get in touch with Zane. That had nothing to do with her. Whatever happened between them was none of her business. What she did worry about was Lyla causing a scene by picking a fight with her. Their last two run-ins had been fraught with palpable hostility, after all.

She took the elevator down to the parking garage. As soon as the doors slid open, Tamara pointed ahead. “Our car’s just over there.”

“Okay…”

“Hadley Pearson!” A sharp, high-pitched voice rang out the moment she turned.

Hadley’s steps halted for a second and her back instinctively tensed. Her brows knit together. She didn’t have to look to know who it was. But she chose not to respond. To her, Lyla was nothing more than a stranger.

Without sparing her a glance, she kept walking straight ahead.

“Hey! Hadley!”

Lyla laughed angrily, then ran forward and stepped directly into Hadley’s path. Lifting her chin haughtily, she sneered. “I’ve been calling you loud and clear. Didn’t you hear me? Or are you just being rude on purpose?”
