Chapter 1849: Chapter 1850

Eric gave an inward laugh. Did she honestly think he believed any of that? Even if she meant it, it wouldn’t have mattered to him.

“Hey, Eric…” Megan edged closer, dropping her voice. “What’s really going on with you?”

Her brows pinched together in concern. “I overheard you talking to Phillips earlier. It sounded pretty bad.”

“Enough!” Eric snapped, glaring at her. “Ask me again, and I’ll make sure you’re gone.”

“Okay, okay…” Megan pouted, her lips twisting in disappointment. “I won’t ask anymore. No need to shout at me.”

Clinging to Eric’s arm, Megan had no idea she only made his annoyance worse. His expression stayed tense, and it was clear he was running out of patience.

It felt like luck was never on his side. Even the simplest things could go sideways for him. Of all people to run into, it had to be her.

The sky grew pale as morning approached.

Zane finished his IV drip, and Hadley walked with him back to the hotel, making sure he reached his room safely.

“Get some good rest, Zane,” she said softly. “If you feel bad again, just give me a call.”

Zane nodded with a smile. “Okay.”

Only after that did Hadley finally relax enough to return to her own room. She knew she needed to get some sleep—her schedule was packed from morning until night.

There was a sponsor’s event in just a few hours, and by afternoon, she would be traveling to another city for her next commitment.

Once the morning event was over, Hadley made her way back to the hotel right away and knocked on Zane’s door.

There was no answer from inside.

Deciding not to wait around, Hadley sent Zane a quick text. “Zane, are you not in your room?”

She hoped he hadn’t taken a turn for the worse, not after last night.

Zane replied instantly. “I’m out for work; meeting a few business partners.”

Seeing his message, Hadley felt her worries slip away. As long as he was healthy, nothing else mattered.

She typed back, “I’ll be leaving Ciderbrook this afternoon. If we don’t run into each other before then, take care of yourself.”

He responded after a moment. “Have a safe trip. I’ll see you in Srixby.”

“Thanks. See you soon in Srixby.”

Hadley ended up heading to the airport without seeing Zane again.

Knowing he was out handling business, Hadley figured he must be feeling better. Rather than dwell on it, she turned her attention to her next stop.

Right as she was about to board her flight, her phone rang. Nyla’s name appeared on the screen.

“Hello, Hadley.”
