Chapter 1833: Chapter 1834

His hands were shaking so much he couldn’t even hold a lightweight bag. And yet he insisted he was okay?

Zane looked a little flustered as he rubbed his forehead. “Sorry to trouble you… I think I ate something bad. I’ve got a bit of… diarrhea.” He mumbled the last word under his breath.

They weren’t exactly close. Saying something like that to a woman he was not close to felt awkward and out of place.

“Diarrhea?” Hadley didn’t seem the least bit uncomfortable. Instead, she pressed on, “Is that all? Do you have a fever too?”

Zane was just about to respond when his face suddenly tensed.

Without another word, he turned around and rushed into the bathroom.

Hadley blinked, stunned by how fast he moved. This wasn’t just a mild stomach issue.

As the bathroom door shut, her gaze shifted to the coffee table in front of the sofa. There was a box of medicine and a digital thermometer sitting on it.

The medicine was clearly for diarrhea. The thermometer had already been used, still displaying a reading of 100.6°F. So he really did have a fever.

Hadley glanced at the thermometer in her hand, then slowly set it down just as Zane stepped out of the bathroom.

He looked even worse than before. His face was almost ghostly pale, and he was clutching his abdomen tightly with one hand.

This couldn’t go on.

Hadley quickly stepped forward to support him. “This isn’t okay. You need to get to a hospital!”

Zane hesitated. “I already took some medicine.”

Hadley shook her head firmly. “It’s obviously not working. Just look at yourself. You’re completely pale!”

“Alright.”

Zane wasn’t the hard-headed type, especially with a doctor for a cousin. He obviously knew the importance of seeking professional help when needed.

“I’ll call someone. You should go back and rest,” he said.

“Rest? When you’re like this?” The words flew out before Hadley could stop them. “Zane, listen to me…”

She guided him to the sofa and helped him sit down. “Just wait here a moment.”

Then she turned, picked up her phone, and dialed a number.

“Tamara, it’s me… Yes, could you have someone bring the car to the hotel entrance? Mr. Hayes is sick. He needs to get to the hospital right away. Alright, thanks.”

She ended the call and returned to his side. “Come on. Let’s get you up.”

Zane rose unsteadily, visibly uncomfortable. “I can manage on my own. You don’t have to help.”

Aside from his ex-wife, he had never been this physically close to another woman. And this was Hadley—someone he liked. Being seen in such a helpless state felt deeply humiliating.

Hadley, unaware of what was going through his head, simply looked at him in disbelief. “You can manage on your own? Stop being stubborn. If you collapse, I’ll never forgive myself.”
