Elissa shot up, her chair scraping back sharply. Her face turned ghostly pale. “Alright—I’m on my way!”
She hung up, her hands trembling, eyes brimming with panic.
“Hadley!” Before Hadley could speak, Elissa seized her hand. “It’s Robin… apparently, he slit his wrists!”
The words struck Hadley like a thunderclap. In an instant, her buzz vanished.
“Come on!” she barked, pulling Elissa toward the exit.
“Standing here won’t help—let’s move!”
“Okay!”
They jumped into Hadley’s car and sped off.
When they arrived at City Hospital, Hadley and Elissa leapt out. Tamara remained in the vehicle, typing a quick message to Eric. “Mr. Scott, Miss Pearson just arrived at the hospital. She’s fine though. Nothing to worry about. It’s related to Miss Holland’s ex-husband.”
Elissa stumbled toward the emergency entrance, panic propelling her forward.
“Elissa, wait!” Hadley called after her—but suddenly stopped cold.
“Ernest.”
Just steps away, Ernest appeared as if summoned by fate.
He had just exited the surgical building, on his way to Addy’s house to find Elissa, when he spotted her right in front of him.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, eyes sweeping over her in concern. “Are you sick? What’s wrong?”
“No!” she cried, wriggling in his grasp. “I don’t have time to explain! Let go!”
She broke free and bolted toward the ER, leaving Ernest frozen in place.

“Hadley?” Ernest stopped short, eyes narrowing in confusion. “You’re here too? What’s going on?”
“Ernest…” she said quietly, her voice a reluctant whisper. “Just follow her. You’ll see.” N?w ?ovel chapt?rs are published on find?novel.net
The truth was no longer something she could shield him from.
A flicker of unease crossed Ernest’s face, quickly overtaken by a grim tension. His shoulders stiffened, and without another word, he strode after Elissa.
At the nurse’s station, Elissa leaned against the counter, panting as though she’d sprinted across the city.
“Please,” she gasped. “I’m Robin Torres’ family. What’s his condition?”
Robin? The name stopped Ernest cold just as he entered. His spine went rigid, eyes locking on her like a hawk.
In two long strides, he was at her side. His hand clamped around her wrist with startling speed, pulling her toward him with barely restrained fury.
“What did you just say? Family of whom? Do you even know what that word means anymore?”
Elissa flinched, stunned by the sudden grip and the venom in his tone. She yanked against his hold, but his fingers didn’t budge.
“Ernest, let go!” she cried, panic bubbling to the surface. “Robin… he tried to take his life—he slit his wrists! I don’t have time for your drama right now!”
