Hadley exhaled in relief. “Just make sure everything gets handled properly.”
“Don’t worry. Just leave it to me.”
Brady had other errands to run, so he didn’t linger.
Hadley walked him to the door.
Just before stepping out, he turned back, his tone suddenly serious. “Hadley, if—and I mean if—Eric ever mistreats you, don’t forget you have a brother.”
He held her gaze firmly. “I may not be rich or powerful like he is, but I’d never stand by while my sister suffers. Ever.”
Her breath caught. Her nose stung, and her voice wavered as she smiled through the sudden tightness in her chest. “I know,” she whispered. “I’ll remember.”
Brady waved a hand. “I’m heading out now. No need to see me off. It’s too hot outside.”
“Alright.”
Once he was gone, Hadley didn’t waste a moment. She still had somewhere to be.
A few days ago, Elvin had called to let her know filming had wrapped and that the celebration party was happening today.
Halfway through changing in her walk-in closet, her phone suddenly rang. It was Eric. She answered the call right away. “Hello?”
Eric’s voice came through, warm and steady. “Are you going to the party later?”
“I am,” Hadley answered.
“Where will it be?”
“At Hadberry. On Draper’s private yacht.”
“What time will it end?”
“How would I know?” Hadley, already dressed, was at her vanity, applying her makeup. “It’s just a casual gathering. I can’t tell when it’ll end.”

“Fair enough. Call me when it’s over. I’ll come pick you up.”
Hadley chuckled. “Do I really have to call? Doesn’t Tamara update you about everything anyway?”
“It’s different,” he said, his tone turning serious. “We’re getting married, Hadley. When that happens, we’ll be husband and wife. What goes on between us shouldn’t come from someone else. Tamara and the others are there to protect you. That’s all.” He sounded slightly put out.
Hadley raised an eyebrow and shrugged in helplessness. “Fine. I’ll call you.”
“That’s settled then. Have fun with your colleagues.”
“I will.”
Once she was ready, Hadley made sure Joy was settled in for the evening before leaving Olisvale Bay. Then, she headed toward Hadberry.
Hadberry was a good distance from Olisvale Bay. By the time she got there, the sun was sinking low, casting a warm orange hue across the rippling sea.
A light breeze rolled in from the water, softening what was left of the summer heat.
The yacht, sleek and polished, belonged to Draper. As Adonis’ go-to leading man, he had offered it up for the crew’s celebration party. It had been some time since Hadley last saw her colleagues from the company or the crew.
Once aboard the yacht, she was swept into a flurry of greetings and conversations.
