A long stretch of silence followed as Ernest sat still, his Adam’s apple shifting with the weight of what he wouldn’t say.
Finally, he spoke. “Where did you hear it from? Was it Robin who told you?”
“Does it even matter who told me?” Elissa’s eyes burned with intensity. “What matters is why, on my wedding night, Linda and I both ended up in the wrong room.”
“Rooms. And don’t insult me by calling it a coincidence.”
“It was a coincidence,” Ernest responded without flinching, the words escaping like a reflex.
Elissa stared at him in disbelief. “That’s it? That’s your answer? Then why keep it from me all these years?”
Something in her heart refused to accept it. There had to be more than what he was letting on.
“Why didn’t I keep it from you?” Ernest’s gaze dropped to the floor. “Why do you think? Look at you now—digging, accusing. I knew this would happen. You’d spiral.”
“That means there’s still something you’re keeping from me, isn’t there?” Elissa narrowed her eyes, her voice firm as she leaned in. “I deserve to know exactly what went on that night. Just tell me the truth.”
As the memory surfaced, Elissa spoke gently. “To be honest, I didn’t go to the wrong room at first… I went into the bridal suite, just like I was supposed to. But when I opened the door, I heard voices—intimate ones. There was a man and a woman inside, and the sounds were unmistakable. So I turned around and walked out.”
Wandering after that, she unknowingly ended up in Ernest’s room. Not in her wildest dreams did she think her husband would spend their wedding night with someone else.
One question still nagged at Elissa. “Didn’t Linda care about you? Robin was drunk—I get that—but what about Linda? Why didn’t she stop him?”

“That night…” Ernest let his eyes drift toward her, calm but weighted. “I was targeted. Some rivals in the business world set the whole thing up. Linda and I were both pulled into it. She was actually looking for me, not Robin.”
“So that’s what really happened…” Elissa’s voice dropped to a whisper as the realization sank in. Her eyes turned toward Ernest with sudden clarity. “That night wasn’t an accident—it was planned. Someone set you up.”
“That’s true.” Without looking at her, Ernest gave a quiet nod, offering the truth without resistance.
Still, he added, “But even if that’s the case… what difference does it make? From the very beginning, I never once denied that I failed you.”
“No—this isn’t the same!” Elissa’s voice trembled as her eyes grew red, her head shaking over and over.
“Then tell me… what exactly makes it different?”
“I might’ve never ended up in the wrong room if not for you. It was you… and Linda… It was both of you!” Check latest chapters at FindN0vel.net
For so long, Elissa believed she shared some of the blame. But now she knew better.
Everything pointed back to Ernest—he was the starting point. And Linda’s so-called “mistake” had dragged Elissa even deeper into the wreckage.
