chapter1744
Finally, Miles could stand beside Felicity-not just as her partner, but as her husband, in every way that counted. He'd been looking forward to this for so long, and now, with just a month to go before the wedding, he was busier than he'd ever been—even busier than when the Lopez Corporation opened five new branches in a single week!
With the bride-to-be on doctor's orders to take it easy because of her pregnancy, Felicity was stuck at home, orchestrating everything from her spot on the couch. And that left Miles to run errands, make calls, and handle all the heavy lifting.
"These invitations are nice, but none of them feel perfect," Felicity said, wrinkling her nose as she flipped through the stack.
Miles grabbed a few more samples. "What about these?"
She shook her head at each one, unimpressed. Honestly, these were all custom designs, made just for their wedding. If she didn't like any of these, they'd have to cast a wider net and bring in another designer.
But Miles didn't complain. Not once.
"I'll ask the wedding planner to reach out to a few more people," he said, already grabbing his phone.
Felicity caught his wrist, her eyes twinkling. "Hey, can I ask you something?"
He laughed, brushing her hair back. "You don't have to ask. Just tell me what you want."
She grinned, a little sheepish. "Well... do you think you could ask Abigail to design something for us? You know, like a custom illustration for the invitations? Maybe even the whole wedding theme?"
She'd been mulling over this idea for a while, but Abigail was an internationally renowned artist these days-her works hung in galleries from New York to Paris. Asking her to paint a wedding invitation felt a little... extravagant.
Miles didn't hesitate. He wrapped an arm around her. "Why didn't I think of that? I'll call her later."
"Just don't push her, okay? If Abigail's busy, we'll go with one of these. Seriously, I don't want to be a bother."
He pinched her nose, smiling. "I don't want anything about our wedding to be second best. And come on, I'm her brother-if I don't get special privileges, who does?"
Felicity laughed and pulled him in for a kiss. "Then the invitations are all yours to handle, Mr. Lopez."
"Yes, Mrs. Lopez."
With invitations sorted, it was onto the next big thing: the guest list.
Felicity was double-checking names when she paused, finger hovering over a familiar name.
Miles, sharp as ever, glanced at the list. "Thinking about inviting Calvin Hoffman?" She grinned, sheepish. "If you don't want to-"
"I do."
Felicity blinked, surprised. "Really?"
"I was going to invite him anyway. In fact, I was planning to seat him right up front at the reception."
She leaned in, trying to figure out if he was joking.
He wasn't.
"Why?" she asked, eyebrows raised.
bet
Miles grinned, setting aside his work. "So he gets a front-row seat to see you marrying me. He'll know once
and for all that he never had a shot." s
Felicity snorted. "That's so childish! Langston, how did I never realize you were such a jealous little troublemaker? You're actually going to put Calvin right up front, just to rub it in?" s
Miles smirked. "And I never realized you've been pining for me all these years."
If they'd figured this out sooner, maybe they wouldn't have spent so long dancing around each other.
Felicity just rolled her eyes, flopping back on the couch and propping her feet up. "I want some watermelon."
"It's not the best for you right now," Miles said, but he was already on his way to the kitchen, pulling a chilled watermelon from the fridge, slicing it up, and bringing it to her on a plate. s
Felicity couldn't help but laugh. "I feel like I'm the Queen of England or something."
He grinned, settling beside her. "Right now, you absolutely are."
